Hike to Gorda Peek

at the top of the hike you climb up a little lookout stand

the "hike"

view from the top.  The little island in the middle is Saba Rock.  The restaurant/island where we saw the Toucans, from the previous post when we first arrived on the island.
Did the short hike to the tallest point on the island.  The view at the top was amazing! The hike itself was pretty much like any other hike.  It took about 40 min round trip. Nice little morning exercise to work of the afternoon beers.

Playing cards on a rainy day

One of the Tropical Storms we had left us with a day off and nothing to do so we played some crazy eights and have had an ongoing score sheet ever since.  Have to do a tally but I think I am still ahead....I  think all those backyard crazy eight summers playing with mom are finally paying off!

It was hard to get a picture of the storm...really it was just like your typical day in Vancouver....

This was in our driveway, an Egret.  We have seen it around once in a while since but it was really funny the first time it went walking by.  Its about 3 feet tall.
Also here is a shot of our island vehicle.  The tire cover is all ripped up so we are slowly patching it up with stickers that we find along the way.

Worst Blogger EVER

Wow, its been a while since I posted.... we have in the past couple of months got our Scuba Diving Certification (Corey and I) and also took a 3 day mini vacation to St. Martin.  And not really a single picture to show for it! Partly because the salt and sand has bugged up our camera but alas, it does still take photos and I should really use it more! Will try.

Anyways, here are some pics of a day we spent at Savannah Bay snorkelling.  I think this was back in September? A great day. We saw a nurse shark and some pretty fish.  Nurse sharks are small and shy so it didn't bother us at all or even come out of its hiding spot in the reef.

Lately there has been some jelly fish around so we haven't spent much time int he water.  I got stung by a moon jellyfish in St. Martin when we decided to take late night swim.  Kind of feels like 50 bee stings in one spot and swells for a few days but not too bad.  So I have been a little more cautious about water excursions.

one of the beers is Corey's, thank you very much!

Chickens really are everywhere on this island. This one is rocking out with us! hahaha
Debbie's Birthday is tomorrow, as well as Stevie's birthday is today so to celebrate we are taking a day and spending it in Tortolla probably ending up at Tamarind, a newish pool bar.  Should be fun! Will try to take some pics ;)

Tortolla Festival

Kya, Coleton, Will at the festival

Stilt walkers at the festival.  They were on anywhere from 3 to 8ft stilts and like 6 to 16 yrs old. CRAZY! Most impressive part of the festival

Not sure what the festival was really for but one Monday we went to Tortolla to check it out.  Had some margaritas and watched the dancers.  Here are some pics of the day.  We also stayed and went to see the Dark Knight afterwards.  Good day.

Preparing for a Tropical Storm

So there's the first one blowing in tonight....lots of wind and rain.  We were preparing Baraka Point and CocoMaya, well the boys were, I was getting groceries, and some of the wildlife came out to see what was going on.  Here is a Whip tail Scorpion that was found at Baraka and a meter long snake that was on our deck at CocoMaya.  Dealt with a bit today, two flat tires and getting a plug for those..errrg.  All before this big storm hits.  Bikes are parked inside the apartment and the laundry is down, windows closed. Think thats about all we have to do for our place.  We'll find out.  Here is a link to the storm watch website where you can track the storms.http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ Its Isaac that we're looking out for.  Kim is in the Dominican Republic in a Yoga Seminar so she might get a bit worse hit of the storm than us in Virgin Gorda. Hang on tight!

Cigarette Boats

The motors sound like Harley Bikes!

Everyone at the Marina getting on with the coolers of course!

The Marina in the background as we leave Virgin Gorda
No, we didn't buy one hahahaha. We did rent them though and jetted around the islands for a day and it was super fun! So much so that I think we are going to do it again this month for Aaron's B-day. You get a driver and if you act responsible he lets you drive for a bit ;) Mostly just a day of letting loose, drinks and swimming.  Fun....however I lost my shirt that day :( no didn't loose money actually lost my shirt which is so unlike me! Still miss it.

Cheers!
So the Baths are the tourist spot on Virgin Gorda, beautiful huge rocks, you climb in around and then get to a gorgeous beach. Really a lovely way to spend the afternoon and thats what we did.  Then went to "Top of the Baths" a poolside restaurant located on the way out of the Baths.  Sat by the pool and had a beer after a hard day of climbing thru rocks and swimming in the ocean.  hahahaa. Hey, we work hard the other 6 days of the week! We deserved the break. Here are the pic's. Margaux, I think we have the same pic from when you were here! I remember seeing it on facebook! Love it!
